Masters Tournament Preview

This week is one of the best weeks for golf and non-golf fans, it’s Masters week. From the azaleas blooming, to the Masters theme song coming across your TV on a nice spring day, all the way to Jim Nantz saying “Hello friends”, this week, everyone is a golf fan.

As the best golfers in the world head into Augusta, the storylines are right there with them. The main storyline is Tiger Woods is back in Augusta for the first time in three years. This latest comeback of Tiger’s has been quicker than even he could imagine. Could he win this week and make the comeback complete?

However, Tiger isn’t the only person making a comeback this year. We have seen Bubba Watson win twice already this year – the Match-Play and Riviera. Another left-hander making a comeback is Phil Mickelson. Mickelson won earlier in the year in Mexico. This was Phil’s first win in over five years. There are some eerily similarities between the two. Both are past champions at the Masters, both are left handers and both are riding momentum into Augusta.

The last storyline heading into the first major of the year is all of the young guys playing so well this year. With Justin Thomas comes into Augusta riding a wave of momentum that started last year at the PGA Championship . Jordan Spieth seems to be making the turn on his game as he comes off a T3 finish in Houston. If you see a young guy putting on the green jacket come Sunday, don’t be surprised.

Our takes: The Masters is always interesting because people think that you have to be a great putter. In reality, you have to be a better ball striker than a putter. Sergio Garcia hit over 50 greens in regulation last year and won.

Favorites: These are players who are playing well and can almost be a guarantee to contend this weekend.

Tiger Woods

Justin Thomas

Justin Rose

Phil Mickelson

Jordan Spieth

Sleepers: These are players who are still very good players, they might not be the first people you think of when it comes to winning a major.

Alex Noren

Xander Schauffle

Patrick Cantlay

Brian Harmon

Louis Oosthuizen
