British Airways set to launch nonstop service between Charleston and London

Travelling from Europe to Myrtle Beach for a golf getaway just got a whole lot easier. Beginning April 4, British Airways will fly two nonstop routes each week between Charleston, South Carolina and London, England. The flight is Charleston’s first transatlantic route, with Thursday / Sunday service continuing until October 24.

Just 90 miles south of Myrtle Beach and a short two-hour ride up Highway 17, Charleston is now the optimal spot for British and other European golfers flying in to experience the “Golf Capital of the World.” The flight provides much easier access to the Grand Strand while avoiding major airport hubs like Charlotte and Atlanta and will facilitate smoother travel for both Europeans coming to play golf in Myrle Beach, and Grand Strand locals planning a European getaway.

One unique feature of golf on the Grand Strand is the prevalence of European-inspired golf facilities—courses that honor classical design traditions but with a unique Lowcountry flair. Take Prestwick Country Club, for example. A member of the Myrtle Beach’s Best Golf Package, Pete and P.B. Dye effortlessly combine the classic with the contemporary on this par-72 layout. With Scottish features and Pete Dye’s signature railroad ties, Prestwick is a visual gem and absolute must-play.

Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links is another Scottish-inspired links course that can be played as part of the Myrtle Beach’s Best Package. Opened in 1996 to rave reviews, Glen Dornoch may be the best example of links-inspired golf captured in a Lowcountry setting. The course overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway and features water and/or marshy areas on 12 of 18 holes. Strategically placed bunkers put a premium on accuracy. As picturesque as it gets, Glen Dornoch will make you stop time and time again to take in the amazing surroundings.

Springtime golf in Myrtle Beach is the best there is. And now, travelling here from Europe to play just became remarkably easier. Be sure to go online and check out everything Myrtle Beach has to offer!
