A par 4 playing 435 yards from the tips, 410 and 390 yards from the middle set of tees and 304 yards from the forward tees, No. 18 will steer you toward driver as the most viable option for your first shot – so long as you can keep it in the short grass. The rough at Shaftesbury Glen can get thick and punish any wayward tee shot, so we advise some caution as necessary here in your club selection.
A solitary fairway bunker guards your tee shot at the right back end of its landing area, along a fairway that narrows considerably as you move forward. A water hazard then runs along the left side of your approach, leading up to one of several elevated greens that are a defining element of this Clyde Johnston design.
Three of Shaftesbury’s trademark “finger” bunkers embedded along the upslopes make for a striking visual, and present a counter-balancing challenge to a green that offers plenty of landing area and runs more than 60 yards deep. A swale separates the front and back portions of the green. Pin placement on any given day can present a distinctly different approach shot strategy.
