MYRTLE BEACH GOLF COURSES – BLACKMOOR GOLF CLUB
Blackmoor Golf Club
In 1990, golf legend Gary Player cut the ribbon on his singular contribution to the Myrtle Beach area, and Blackmoor Golf Club was born.
Carved from the historic Longwood Plantation in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Player didnt battle against the terrain in an attempt to make his mark. Instead, he leveraged the local landscape to his advantage, weavinghis championship layout through the ancient oaks and former rice fields. The result is a course awarded Golf Course of the Year a full 15 years after opening by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, and continues to be celebratednow more than 25 years later. Its balanced integration with the environment helps to define the Lowcountry golf genre, found only in this area of the country.
At a maximum length of 6,614 yards, with a course rating of 71.1 and a 126 slope, Blackmoor requires precision. Thats not to sayleave the driver in the bag. But when you do pull it, youll be challenged by both direction and distance. A 3 or 5-wood may be your best option, as Player challenges you to think your way through the course.
There are six holes that play as a dogleg-right. Several greens complexes are protected by both mounding and bunkers. And the ultimate decision-maker: the Par 4 8th hole offers you two distinct options. You can play the 371-yard dogleg-right, or, you can opt for the straight path to the hole a moderately narrow 290-yard forced carry through a chute of trees.
Many golfers will find themselves wrestlingwith the decision between safety and glory. When faced with a dogleg, do you play to the elbow, or shape a hero shot around, cutting the corner to the green. The higher percentage shot prevails, but the golfers heart wants what it wants. Can you resist the temptation? The choice is yours, and that theme unfolds as you play your round at Blackmoor.
Its a fun course, and you can make it the experience you want. The Par 3s are fair and allow for success, even if you miss the greens. The Par 4s are the center of the action, testing your shot selection, and perception of moments the course allows you to be aggressive. The four Par 5s are guarded by hazards, but let you go after tee shots. And you can further personalize your round with a diverse set of tees that allow you to exercise your strengths, or confront your limitations.
Golfers can expect gentle sloping of the greens, allowing you to score well if youre putter is hot. The TifEagle ultradwarf Bermudagrass greens are designed to roll true, so if you invest warm up time on the putting greens available on site, itll pay dividends on the course.
Blackmoor Golf Club is a complete golf facility, with driving range, putting and chipping greens, and sand traps. A full-service restaurant and Pro Shop await you in the Lowcountry-styled clubhouse after your round.
A true challenge of your ingenuity, imagination and vision, Blackmoor maintains its must-play in Myrtle Beach status by rewarding golfers of all skill levels.Whether its your first play, or your 50th, youll appreciate the creativity and care instilled in the course by design, and the way its cared for day in and day out.
